Year 1 Common Exception Words

Feedback from parents at parent’s evening was that parents would like spellings to learn at home. Below are the common exception words for Year 1 to learn at home each week. These words can then be revisited in term 6. There will also be a ‘Wordwall’ activity each week to support the spelling practice of these words at home. Spellings will not be tested in school as research shows spelling tests don’t have an positive impact on spelling in children’s sustained writing.

Homework

MyMaths is set at the end of a unit to consolidate learning.

Phonics books are changed every Monday (phonics books should be re-read daily for the week to build expression and fluency).

Reading for pleasure books can be changed daily by the child but this is their responsibility.

Homework are to complete the re-call quizzes and tasks below to deepen learning and understanding. If children want to present their learning and understanding from the quiz in their red homework book they can but this is not expected.
