Term 2
This term, Year 5 will be learning about World War One. Our key question this term is "The Great War - a war to end all wars?"
On Thursday 9th November 2023, Year 5 will have their World War One workshop delivered by Portals to the Past. During this educational, exciting and moving workshop, the children will be provided with a depth of understanding of the Great War in an impactful, but sensitive and age-appropriate manner.
Supported by WW1 artefacts and information boards, this workshop will covers topics such as:
- How did World War I start?
- “It’ll be over by Christmas”
- The involvement of the British Empire
- A war of propaganda
- Sign up here
- Life in the trenches
- Maximum fire power and the dawn of new technology
- Tactics
- “The darkest hour before the dawn…”
- Germany’s eventual surrender.
Towards the end, there will be a minute’s silence to acknowledge and pay tribute to the events and loss of life during the Great War, and the workshop will finish with bayonet practice.
