At Holy Trinity we use a reading system called Accelerated Reader. With this, the children do an initial assessment to provide us with their starting point. This then correlates to colour-coded books that the children can choose that match their reading ability.

Children are encouraged to read every night with an adult, talk about the book they are reading and record it in their reading record books.

When a book is completed, an Accelerated Reader quiz can be completed using the link above. The quizzes are made up of comprehension questions on the book and are designed to test how well the child has understood what they have read.

Here at Holy Trinity, we have wonderful rewards for those who read! Pupils work towards achieving 50 reads (reward = a free book), 100 reads (reward = a bronze badge), 150 reads (reward = a silver badge), 200 reads (reward = a gold badge) and 250 reads (reward = a headteacher's badge) throughout the year, so everyday counts!

Remember a read does not have to be a complete book! As long as it amounts to the minimum of 10 minutes a day, it counts!

Times Table knowledge is essential for success in many areas of Maths, particularly with fluency. 

Here at Holy Trinity, we use Times Table Rockstars to help with this. It is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice. Each week concentrates on a different times table, with a recommended consolidation week for rehearsing the tables that have recently been practised, as well as providing a fun format to learn from!
