Growing Tomorrow's Leaders

SATs

Words like "test" and "exam" tend to set alarm bells ringing, but don't worry, we're here to take some of the stress out of the whole ordeal, and that's under normal circumstances.

What Are Some Good Ideas for Preparing for the KS1 SATs?

SATs preparation and revision is a pretty individual thing, and we'd encourage you to try out different ideas and routines to find what works best for you and your child. That said, here are some tried and tested tips that you might find helpful:

  • First and foremost, support and reassure your child that there is nothing to worry about that they should always just try their best. Praise and encourage.
  • Ensure your child has the best possible attendance at school.
  • Support your child with any homework tasks.
  • Reading, spelling and arithmetic (e.g. times tables) are always good practice.
  • Talk to your child about what they have learnt at school and what book(s) they are reading (the character, the plot, their opinion).
  • Make sure your child has a good sleep and a healthy breakfast every day!
  • Remember to take a break for yourself - preparing a child for SATs is hard work for the best of us (especially in 2022!) so don't forget to reward yourself as well as your child.
  •

Follow these and you can rest assured that your children are as prepared as they can be for the KS1 SATs.
