In 2026, Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School, Dartford proudly celebrates a remarkable milestone in its history: 200 years since the foundation of the original Holy Trinity National School in 1826. For two centuries, Holy Trinity has served the children and families of Dartford, providing education rooted in Christian values and a commitment to helping every child flourish.
The origins of the school can be traced to the early nineteenth century, when National Schools were established across England to provide education for children who might otherwise have had little opportunity to attend school. Historical records held within the Kent Historic Environment Record identify the original school on West Hill, Dartford as a National School dating from 1826, making Holy Trinity one of the longest-established schools in the local area.
The school's story has always been closely linked with Holy Trinity Church, Dartford, a place of worship whose history stretches back to the Norman period. The church was established around 1080, and for centuries churches such as Holy Trinity played a central role in both the spiritual and educational life of their communities.
Maps from the nineteenth century show the school operating as a National School between 1862 and 1875. By the end of the century it was known as Holy Trinity School, demonstrating the strong connection between the school and the parish it served. Throughout the Victorian era and beyond, generations of Dartford children passed through its classrooms, gaining the knowledge, values and skills needed to contribute positively to society.
For much of its history, Holy Trinity School stood on the West Hill site in Dartford. It remained there until the 1990s, when the site was redeveloped and the school community continued its journey in its current location. While the buildings may have changed, the school's purpose remained the same: to provide a caring, inclusive and ambitious education founded on Christian principles.
Today, Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School continues to build on this proud legacy. Serving a diverse community in Dartford, the school remains committed to nurturing academic excellence, strong character and spiritual development. Guided by its vision of"Growing Tomorrow's Leaders", Holy Trinity encourages every child to aspire, achieve and make a positive difference in the world around them.
As we celebrate 200 years of educational heritage, we give thanks for all those who have shaped the life of our school: pupils, families, staff, governors, clergy and members of the wider community. Their dedication has helped ensure that Holy Trinity continues to thrive, honouring its past while looking confidently towards the future.
