Please watch this video first.
Now watch our PowerPoint lesson.
Maths
In today’s Maths lesson we will recap subtraction (not crossing 10). You have previously looked at subtraction within 10 and will remember your karate Maths and your subtraction terminology such as subtract, take away and minus. After today’s lesson you will understand the importance of zero and will know that when nothing is taken away the number remains the same. Likewise, when a whole group is taken away there is nothing or ‘0’ left. You will use objects and pictorials to see what you started with, what has happened (what has been subtracted) and what you are left with. I will go through some warm-up questions with you first to show you how to answer the questions. I would then like you to have a go at some practice questions so that you can independently apply these skills. Your main Maths task is slightly different today, we would like you to have a go at the Maths assessment, which is uploaded below the Maths PowerPoint/video in a PDF format. This is not an actual assessment, so please do not stress. Try to work through it without your parent’s help so we can see what you know and what we might need to recap again. As usual, at the end of the PowerPoint are some challenge questions for you to have a go at, remember to explain your answers using your reasoning skills. Try your best! I can’t wait to see your work.
Reading
Today’s book is called ‘The day the Crayons Quit’ by Drew Daywalt and it is read by Books Alive! See if you can answer these questions with your parent as you go through the video, make sure you pause the video in places to give you a chance to answer. Feel free to answer the questions verbally or write your answers down if you want to.
Spellings
Keep practicing your spellings, your practice test is tomorrow!
