Now watch our PowerPoint lesson.

https://video.link/w/hg1Kb

Aren't weddings full of happy memories and lots of love and laughter? Have you ever been to a wedding or know someone who has? Can they tell you all about it? We're going to learn all about different kinds of weddings, why people get married, what happens at weddings and what the usual wedding customs are. They are such a special celebration and we want to know all about the weddings that have happened within your family. Do you have old photos from your grandparents or even your great grandparents' wedding? Are your parents/ aunties and uncles/ godparents married? Do they have photos... and maybe even a wedding dress still?! See what you can find out and maybe keep something to share with everyone in tomorrow's zoom call. We hope  you enjoy learning all about this special occasion :).

Maths

In today’s Maths lesson we will recap subtraction (not crossing 10). You have previously looked at subtraction within 10 and will remember your karate Maths and your subtraction terminology such as subtract, take away and minus. After today’s lesson you will understand the importance of zero and will know that when nothing is taken away the number remains the same. Likewise, when a whole group is taken away there is nothing or ‘0’ left. You will use objects and pictorials to see what you started with, what has happened (what has been subtracted) and what you are left with. I will go through some warm-up questions with you first to show you how to answer the questions. I would then like you to have a go at some practice questions so that you can independently apply these skills. Your main Maths task is slightly different today, we would like you to have a go at the Maths assessment, which is uploaded below the Maths PowerPoint/video in a PDF format. This is not an actual assessment, so please do not stress. Try to work through it without your parent’s help so we can see what you know and what we might need to recap again. As usual, at the end of the PowerPoint are some challenge questions for you to have a go at, remember to explain your answers using your reasoning skills. Try your best! I can’t wait to see your work.

Reading

Today’s book is called ‘The day the Crayons Quit’ by Drew Daywalt and it is read by Books Alive! See if you can answer these questions with your parent as you go through the video, make sure you pause the video in places to give you a chance to answer. Feel free to answer the questions verbally or write your answers down if you want to.

  1. What do you think this book is about?
  2. Why would crayons want to quit working?
  3. How do you think the yellow crayon was feeling when it wrote this letter? How can you tell?
  4. Do people ever feel like quitting?
  5. What do you think the crayons should do?
  6. How should Duncan solve this problem?
  7. Do you think that there is a colour that is more important than others? Why or why not?
