Shadows

 

In this lesson we are going to explore how shadows are shapes formed when opaque objects block out light. In the investigation we will explore how the angle, height, distance and strength of the light source can affect the length and shape of shadows.

 

Click on the link and open the document below for todays lesson. Once you have opened the link watch the video and follow the instructions to carry out the investigation and record your results. When the instructor asks you which scientific skill you are working on, make sure to click planning and carry out the year 6 written task only.

 

Please note that for this lesson you will need:

  • A torch (a mobile phone light will do) 
  • A small toy
  • A pencil 
  • One piece of paper
  • ruler (it is still possible to carry out this lesson without the ruler.)
