In today’s Phonics lesson we are recapping past and present tense. Remember that if we are writing about something that has happened, we would be writing in the past tense. Likewise, if we are writing about something happening now, we would be writing in the present tense.

For example, I painted a beautiful picture.

I am painting a beautiful picture.

It is really important that when we write we are using the correct tense.

I would like you to listen to this fun song to remind you of the different tenses.

I would then like you to write six sentences using the past and present verb word mat.

Please write three in the past tense and then write three in the present tense.

Remember to start your sentences with a capital letter, leave finger spaces between your words, include adjectives, use the correct tense and end your sentences with a piece of punctuation.

For example: It is a beautiful, sunny day! (Present tense)

The weather was cold and miserable yesterday. (Past tense).
