What was it like to be an evacuee?
The year is 1939 and Chamberlain has just declared that Britain is at war with Germany. Upon hearing this news, many city parents made the difficult decision to evacuate their children to safer places in the countryside. There was a great fear of bombing and gas attacks from Germany as people knew that the Germans had better technology than the last war and had already seen it in use in places like Poland. The government decided to put the evacuation system in place so that children would be more shielded from these attacks. You are going to work through this PowerPoint, find out more about life as an evacuee and begin to write a series of diary entries about your experiences. Today's entry will be focused on you being given the news that you are to be sent away, the emotions around that and the preparation that you will need to do before your journey to the country.
