Chinese New Year!

Today is the start of the Chinese New Year celebrations! I would like you to watch the Chinese Zodiac story to find out about the history behind the celebration. Look up the year that you were born, which animal was it the year of? We will then discuss what happens during Chinese New Year and the lead up to it. I would then like you to have a go at practicing your Chinese characters. Can you write your name? Can you write your numbers from 0-10?

Miss Matthes and her son Jamie have kindly recorded how to say some phrases and numbers in Mandarin. Please watch and have a go too. Mandarin is the most widely spoken language in China.

As it is Chinese New Year today, we thought it would be fun to do some Chinese style crafts. DON'T WORRY, you're not expected to do them all!! As we are unsure of the resources you have at home, we have included a range of craft activities that require a variety of resources. Hopefully these are things that you will have at home. If you don't have any of them, then feel free to improvise and create your own. Choose your favourite one to do, or if you want to try a few of them then feel free. We hope you have lots of fun and we can't wait to see pictures of your finished art!

Dragons in the City

For our story today, we have a lovely insight into what Chinese New Year is like for the people who celebrate it. We learn all about the delicious food and the exciting, colourful parade. Once you have listened carefully to the story, see if you can answer the questions on the discussion cards.
This is your chance to look back over the last term and think about all the things that made you happy. Did you enjoy spending more time with your family? Did you learn a new skill? Did you get better at something, like your phonics or counting to 50? Choose your favourite 3 things that made you happy and draw them in the thought bubbles.

Spelling test

Please take your final spelling test of this week. How did you do? Did you improve your score from Wednesday?
