Pre-learning shout out!

For the start of Term 4, it would be advantageous for your child to have a basic understanding of:

  • Learning Project: habitats of a range of animals of their choice. Why they choose these habitats and what is specific to each animal.
  • Maths: Revise what we have covered so far this year. Be familiar with finding equivalent fractions and begin to have an understanding of converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers.
  • GPS: Using a comma for all its purposes e.g. in punctuating direct speech, in lists, for parenthesis and to separate clauses for clarity.

Our Learning Project this term is...

Beast Creator

A bug, a creepy-crawly, a beast! He’ll tickle your skin then go in for the sting!

Arachnids, invertebrates, molluscs and myriapods, hiding in nooks and beneath darkened rocks… Come search for these minibeasts, and let’s sort them out! How many legs? How many wings? Who does it eat and who eats it? Can you classify it? Can you draw it or make it?

Build a bug hotel or a wonderful wormery – then watch them wriggle and burrow, mixing earth as they go!

Discover where in the world you’ll find the deadliest beasts – scorpions, ants and venomous spiders… Perhaps the Vespa mandarinia japonica is the one that you fear?

But... ‘There was an old lady who swallowed a fly. I don’t know why she swallowed a fly… Perhaps she’ll die?’

Term 1.... Off With Her Head!

What sort of man would order the beheading of his wife? Was she really that bad?

Travel back in time to the 1500 and meet the terrifying Tudors, a domineering dynasty that changed our history.

Discover an opulent court where dancing and singing goes hand in hand with swift falls from favour – and even swifter falling of heads!

Develop your painting skills in miniature, solve riddles and remember to protect your precious neck with a large white ruff – if you want to survive at Tudor court!

Flex your detective muscles and become a criminal investigator! Will you find out the facts, or will the evidence from the past bemuse you? How will you find the accused… Innocent or guilty?

It’s your turn to take part in one of the most famous trials the world has ever known!

Term 2.... Stargazers!

Journey through space, the final frontier… Navigate beyond the Sun: the magnificent, blazing star at the centre of our solar system!

Investigate the 8 planets – Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Take a look at the moon, a celestial body that orbits Earth.

Compare the time of day at different places on Earth and use GPS navigation systems to track hidden treasure! Get in a spin making simple models of the solar system and listen to the haunting sound of space-themed songs.

Then it’s three, two, one…. BLAST OFF! Build and launch a rocket for an important test mission.

Exploring space is probably the greatest adventure that humankind has ever undertaken. Are we alone or are there other forms of life out there?

See below for all of our amazing learning so far this term...

Term 3 - Peasants, Princes & Pestilence

Flee your fields, close your doors and pull up the drawbridge: the dreaded and deathly 'Great Pestilence' is here! Mount your steed and gallop through the dark and deadly world of 14th century Britain, sword and shield at the ready, pledging your allegiance to king and country!

Rouse your troops with promises of bloody battle and violent jousts. Read and write historical accounts, poems and tales and discover the grotesque effects of bugs and bacteria on the human body.

And if you smell a rat, my friend - get out of there!
