Welcome to Kingfisher Class!
We are a fun loving, enthusiastic Year 4 Class. Our teacher is Miss Ramsay and our teaching assistant is Mrs Wilders. We are looking forward to a fantastic year together.
Term 5 - Stone Age!
This term, Kingfisher Class will be travelling back in time...way back to when men lived in caves and hunted for woolly mammoths, where fire was the latest must have gadget and when fur was all the rage! Armed to the teeth with knowledge, we will be stepping back into the savage Stone Age! Join us as we explore what life was like for Prehistoric man. Kingfisher Tribe will take up their pencils and pens to document the ways in which the Prehistoric period was different to modern times. We will be engaging in several Caveman Challenges: building grass shelters and making frumenty to name but a few. Kingfisher Tribe will learn how to take on woolly mammoths and sabre tooth tigers with nothing but a spear. We will be writing Stone Age themed stories and turning them into cave paintings, along with getting the scoop on the hottest news in town! Our Prehistoric adventures will be the talk of the school and we won't stop until someone shouts, "I'm not a caveman, get me outta here!"
Term 4 - Misty Mountain
Come and join Kingfisher Class on a mountain adventure. Help us climb to new heights with our non-fiction, descriptive and persuasive writing. We will be learning all about the world's mountains, the different types of mountains and where to find them. Join us as we explore and learn about all of the exhilarating activities that can be enjoyed in a mountainous landscape: mountain climbing, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing to name but a few. We may even have an up close and personal encounter with a yeti!
Term 3 - I am Warrior!
Kingfisher Class are excited to be learning all about the ruthless Romans! This bloodthirsty civilisation is responsible for some of the world's most amazing structures! Their Army's discipline and drive meant that they conquered several nations and the strength of their emperors meant that they were a force to be reckoned with. Myths told of fearless heroes and ferocious beasts, of daring deeds and exquisite weaponry! Kingfisher class will explore the world of the Romans whilst creating artefacts, writing epic myths and newspaper reports. They will learn about gladiators, feasts and aqueducts. Did you know that the Romans used to make themselves sick after eating to fit in more food? Did you know that chariot racers were celebrities in Roman times? It will be an incredible journey back through time, let's hope we make it out alive!
Term 2 - Enchanted Forest
Term 2 has just begun and Kingfisher Class are about to take an adventure through an Enchanted Forest that they aren't likely to forget any time soon. We begun the term with a dramatic flourish! Today, the children took part in a Shakespeare Workshop of A Midsummer Night's Dream, a magical comedy set within an enchanted forest. The children, through acting out this well-known comedy have learnt all about the mishaps and confusion that can be found in a magical forest. We had plenty of fun taking on different roles, acting out famous scenes and even creating the sound effects of the forest. This experience will lead onto some magnificent writing in the form of poetry, stories and play scripts. We will be learning about Shakespeare and theatre in the Elizabethan period. The children will have the opportunity to explore the theme of Enchanted Forest through music, dance and art. In Science we will be finishing off our States of Matter topic and moving on to learning all about how we hear and where sound comes from. Maths will take us into the world of multiplication and division, problem solving all the while. We are lucky in Kingfisher Class to be learning not only Spanish this term but some Mandarin too! As if that wasn't enough...we will be singing in our first Choral Outreach Concert and we are leading up to a very festive time of the year. It's a wonderful time to be a Kingfisher!
Term 1 - Potions
Our first topic this year is Potions. Some fantastic learning is bubbling away in our classroom already... Our class text is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling. We were all very excited by the delivery of 30 individual letters inviting us to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, we can't quite work out how Hedwig managed them all under his wing! In preparation, we have already brewed up an erupting potion. It caused many squeals as we watched the liquid erupt over the edge of the cup in a frothy explosion of colour. We are currently on a journey through Diagon Alley, describing our journey with fantastic expanded noun phrases, verbs and adverbs. The children tasted Butterbeer today, many describing it as 'frothy, fizzy and creamy'. Our sketching skills have been put to the test through drawing a Harry Potter portrait and we are all trying hard with our joined up handwriting. What with States of Matter in Science, greetings in Spanish, Place Value problems in Maths and e-safety in Computing it's already shaping up to be a busy and exhilarating term. We can't wait to follow Harry's journey on to Hogwarts and to continue our learning around Potions...
