Term 3 - Wriggle and Crawl
Year 2 will be wiggling their way into Term 3 with a buzz! This topic is all about insects, we will be digging up mini-beasts and investigating their various habitats. We will become insect experts and use our knowledge to create informative fact files and create our very own bug boxes. Puffin class will be exploring the different ways in which these tiny creatures move, developing our own insect dances. We will find out how different insects can be useful to us and our environment. Did you know that bees make honey? Did you know that ladybirds eat aphids? We will be answering some of those key questions...How do caterpillars turn into butterflies? Why do crickets make the noise they do? Why are earthworms blind? We will begin our topic with a large scale bug hunt in Dartford park. By the end of the topic we hope to put on a museum to share all of the wonderful 'Wriggle and Crawl' learning that we will have done. Ready, set, wriggle...
Tunnels, Turrets and Towers
Puffin Class are galloping back in time this term to experience the world of knights, castles and medieval adventures. We might even encounter a dragon or two! Our term began with an extremely exciting trip to Dover Castle which has sparked off some excellent non-fiction writing and boosted our knowledge of castle features. This term will take us into the enchanted world of fairy tales. We will be weaving our way through a range of fairy tales, getting to know the heroes and villains, exploring the settings and getting to know the structure. We will then be writing our own fairy tale with a twist. Throughout the term we will be learning about life in Medieval Britain - how people lived, what they ate and drank, what they wore and what they did for fun. We will be using this information to help us write a glossy magazine article. The alliteration of Tunnels, Turrets and Towers will help us launch into some poetry writing. Our creative sides will come out when we use clay to create a castle, design and sew our own family crest, do some Medieval cooking and make our very own wooden swords. With so much to do, not forgetting the all important Nativity to prepare for, we had better suit up, saddle up and set off on our quest for knowledge...we will be working so hard the Queen will knight us in no time!
Term 1 - Muck, Mess and Mixtures
Welcome to Puffin Class! This term we are getting our hands messy with a range of mixtures! We will be mixing up tasty treats, swirling and squelching slime, combining colours to make new vibrant shades, creating marvellous medicines and bubbling up magical potions. Through our messy investigations we will immerse our senses in gloop and goo to help improve our vocabulary and provide some stimulus for wonderful writing. This term we will be delighting in writing sets of instructions, gripping narratives and ravishing recounts. We will be learning all about place value in our Maths and be tripping over our tongues with times table facts. Puffin class will be working hard on their handwriting, spellings and reading and making sure they have fun through lots of learning opportunities in a range of subjects. We will be exploring the world through our Geography lessons, ensuring that we know all of the key facts about continents and oceans. Puffins will be swooping over the UK to learn about its countries and capital cities. In Music, we will be looking at South African beats and using the drums to create some of our own. In R.E. we will be taking things back to Creation to really understand the story and God's plan for humans. We will also be creating some amazing artwork!
With so much to do Puffin Class are certain to be a little tired so make sure they do their reading and get to bed at a decent time so that we can have lively lessons and learn to our full potential. It's shaping up to be a terrific term! Any queries or questions, I am happy to have notes in the contact book or if you would like to request a meeting please get in touch. Please ensure that your child gets their reading record book signed every night, does their Mathletics and learns their spellings. The topic work is optional but I would love to see some fabulous projects entering the classroom if possible!
