Our topic this term is Misty Mountain. Let’s begin the preparation for a mighty mountain expedition! Discover how these rocky giants are formed and where they can be found in the world. Plan your journey across mountainous terrain using maps and atlases. Design your own ski resort, complete with all of the fantastic views and exhilarating sports! But beware, look out! What’s that by that tree? Its footprints are huge! Have we found the…Yeti!!
What fun we had today! We began our day orienteering in the school grounds, using map reading skills to find clues to help us build a code word. Robin class thoroughly enjoyed working in pairs to help one another complete this task. After that, we collected twigs from the school field and instead of building a camp fire, we used wool to help tie the ends of the sticks together to build a 'twig star' to hang in our gardens.
Following lunch, we worked in partners again to identify the trees that surround the school using only their leaves and branches. Robin class designed their own 'campfire menu' which featured dishes such as 'Sausage Surprise' or 'Baked bean and egg stew'!
We also looked at Morse Code and how this system had been used to send emergency messages many years ago. Each of us created messages in the code and swapped with a partner to decipher what had been written. Finally, Year 4 joined together in the hall to learn and sing some popular campfire songs! What a fabulous way to end our day!
This week we have looked at Chinese New Year! The class has learnt about the Chinese Zodiac and listened to the story of how the animals became the years. We looked at where China is in the world, the culture, language and the traditions that take place during the period of Chinese New Year.
Robin class made some beautiful Chinese drums this afternoon to help them celebrate Chinese New Year - The Year of The Pig!
